This is my first review for The Joy In Beauty and I am PSYCHED!! Why you ask? Because it’s for Herbivore Botanicals. A line that I’ve always wanted to try but kept putting off. So when I first started to put together the idea of The Joy In Beauty, I knew immediately the first company that I wanted to review. Once I reached out to Herbivore Botanicals they so graciously agreed to send me products to review knowing that this will be a very open and honest conversation.
Let’s begin, shall we! Herbivore Botanicals was founded by Julia Wills and Alexander Kummerow in 2011 in their Seattle kitchen. They are really into sourcing ingredients that are natural but also allow us to indulge a little. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am a stickler for packaging. I love design and I make no apologies for this. I believe that good packaging design already makes you feel happy knowing that company’s standards are high. With that said, I’m in love with Herbivore Botanicals packaging!! It is top-notch. It is beautiful and they took real care into creating a story around their line. Bravo!
Now let’s get into their ingredients list. Or shall we say the non-ingredients list? They make it known that they do not use any synthetic ingredients, parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, phthalates, chemicals, fillers, mineral oils, or petroleum in their products. They do not animal test as well! They are 100% natural, vegan skincare line.
Once I received their products, I decided on my skincare routine with them and I got to work. This was a fun project and I am so happy to share my thoughts on Herbivore Botanicals with you all. So let’s get it into it!
Ok, I think this is my favorite skincare product of all time! I’m actually shocked at how much I loved this product because it’s not technically formulated for my type of skin. It was formulated for those that have acne-prone skin and it helps to calm down redness. These are two things that I don’t really suffer from, so why do I like this product? Because it was amazing on my skin. When I first applied it, It tingled but it smelled sooooo good that I left it on. After 15 minutes, I took it off and then I noticed a brightness to my skin that wasn’t there before. My skin can be dull at times but this product turned my skin light on! It was great!
I’m a crystal freak! Yea, I know what you’re thinking. You think I’m some hippie dippty kinda person but hear me out. Crystals are life. Even if you don’t believe in the power of the crystal, this Jade roller might just change your mind. Here’s the thing rolling this Jade roller around will help with circulation even if you don’t believe in crystals. No matter what it’s helping to improve the circulation and helps with draining your lymphatic system. So at least try it out for those reasons. And if you feel you’ve gotten a boost in luck, give the crystal a little credit. LOL!! 🙂
One of the things that drew me to this line was the moisturizers. When I first learned about the products via Instagram, something told me that these moisturizer oils were like no other. And they didn’t prove me wrong. Note to self: trust your instincts Joy! 🙂 With that said, this moisturizer was luxe and delivered much to my excitement. It helped my skin feel hydrated without feeling sticky. Oh and on a side note, $1 of every Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil sold goes to Americans for Safe Access, an organization that supports safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research. I’m definitely all for it if it’s going to help people!
Alright y’all this product is the real deal. First, it literally smells like a j…..BUT that’s not a bad thing. It smells so good to me. It smells like it was truly sourced from the earth! Since I was sent two versions of the same oil (one with CBD and one without), I think my preference would be this one. I really liked the CBD element. It calmed me down before I started my day and I appreciated that since I live in NYC. This “Emerald CBD Oil contains 100 mg of premium organic Colorado-grown full-spectrum CBD to soothe stressed-out skin in need of calm and relief from redness, irritation, and environmental stressors (quoted from the site).”
This moisturizer was made for all skin types so that’s a huge plus for me! It only took a few drops for my skin to feel the effects. It was a little thick for me so I tended to use this at night for it to really settle. Also, the scent was a bit heavy but overall I did like this oil. According to Herbivore, the Orchid Extract: A natural humectant that draws moisture to the skin and locks it in. I truly felt this on my skin. I would recommend this as long as you’re not sensitive to scent.
So in a truthful review, the next two products aren’t necessarily my favs in this line. While I didn’t hate them, I didn’t exactly fall in love with them either. For various reasons. I just think they weren’t a good fit for me but they can be for someone else. Skin is so subjective. Everyone’s is so different.
I had high hopes for this toner but needless to say it wasn’t for me. It may be because it’s formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin. I don’t suffer from either one of these conditions. However, I feel like it really wasn’t for me because it felt kind of basic on the skin. I also think the scent was a little bit strong as well. Maybe I’m just not a fan of Jasmine scents. Hmmm…something to look into. But in the future, I will try a different mist from them because they offer several different types.
Loved this lip conditioner! The only problem that I have with this is, that I wish it was in a tube and can be applied directly to the (my) lips. This would totally solve the fear I have of it getting contaminated by some fluke of nature. LOL! This conditioner was actually pretty amazing. It really soothed my lips and made them feel luscious. The container is the only problem that I have with it. 🙂
